The 4th Civil Court of Jundiaí, in the interior of São Paulo, held a Centauro sporting goods store responsible for a fire in the Maxi Shopping mall in 2014. The company must pay more than 1.2 million in compensation for material damages , according to the decision of judge Marcio Estevan Fernandes.
The fire would have started in the Centauro store, inside the stock. The excess of stored goods would have made it difficult for the sprinklers (showers activated automatically above a certain temperature in the room) to work, which could have prevented the fire from spreading.
The claimant in the lawsuit is Argo Seguros, triggered by the Ri Happy toy store – one of the establishments damaged by the fire that started at Centauro. The store sought compensation from the mall and Centauro, in a civil liability matter.
The report of UOL got in touch with Centauro’s advisory, through his e-mail. In case of manifestation, we will update the article.
