Alpine ended the series of consecutive races to score points this year, after the frustrating GP of Emilia Romagna. Esteban Ocon finished in fourteenth place, while Fernando Alonso retired after damage to the right flank of the A522 resulting from a collision on the first lap.
In the first wet race of the season, both drivers of the French team managed to gain positions during the opening laps, but Alonso was forced to retire a few laps later and Esteban Ocon spent most of the race in eleventh place until he was penalized. in five seconds. He ended up taking the fourteenth position.
For Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine, the weekend was a disappointment, which cannot happen again.
“Simply and plainly, this weekend was a disappointment for the team and it is the first race of the season where we ended up without scoring points. We have to make sure this doesn’t happen again this year as we have a lot more potential”, said the team manager after the race.
For Rossi, there are areas for improvement and Imola’s result should serve as motivation for the rest of the season. “As a team, there are many areas we have to improve and we have to not make the same mistakes again if we want to achieve our ambitious goals. Although we feel frustrated with the result, we will count on that as an additional motivation not to have that feeling again during the year”, concluded Rossi.
