This Monday (25) the payment of the first installment of the 13th salary to 31.6 million retirees, pensioners and other INSS (National Social Security Institute) insured persons who are entitled to the benefit begins. The first to receive are those with a NIS (Social Identification Number) of end 1, and the calendar extends until May 6th. (See full schedule below)
It is the third year in a row that the 13th INSS salary is paid in advance, and not in August and December (first and second installments, respectively), as is usually the case. In 2020 and 2021, deposits happened earlier because of the covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the payment of the 13th will inject R$ 56.7 billion into the economy. Of this total, R$ 28.35 billion corresponds to the first installment, referring to this month’s competence, which will be paid between today (25) and May 6. The remainder corresponds to the second installment, which is due in May, to be paid between May 25 and June 7.
What is the value?
The first installment of the 13th is equivalent to 50% of the amount paid to policyholders in the other months of the year. The exception is for those who started to receive the benefit after January and will have the 13th calculated proportionally.
The second installment is subject to the Income Tax discount to those who are obliged to pay. This year, all benefits up to BRL 1,903.98 per month are exempt from income tax.
Insured persons who receive a temporary disability benefit – the former sickness benefit – are also entitled to a smaller portion of the thirteenth, calculated according to the duration of the benefit.
How to consult?
The consultation of the benefit amount has been available since the 14th for all policyholders, by calling 135, the official website or the Meu INSS app.
When calling 135, follow the instructions, informing the CPF number and confirming some registration information to avoid fraud. The service is available from Monday to Saturday, from 7 am to 10 pm.
Access www.meu.inss.gov.br with your login and password and, on the home page, click on “Payment Statement”. In this section, two values should appear: the benefit of March competence -which will be as “paid”—and those that will be paid in April (monthly installment + first installment of the 13th salary).
By clicking on the arrow next to the April payment, the statement will open. There, you can check the benefit amount for the month and the 13th, in addition to the date on which the money will be available.
The consultation of the amount of the 13th and the date of payment can also be done through the Meu INSS app, available for Android (Google) and iOS (Apple). The process is the same as on the website: just access the app on your cell phone, click on “Payment Statement” and view the numbers corresponding to the month of April.
