It is officially confirmed, Sébastien Ogier is back at the Rally of Portugal where he will try to beat the record of victories in ‘our’ event, which is in his possession, and that of Markku Alen. the Rally de Portugal is also the event he won for the first time in the WRC, in 2010. It will be the debut of the new Rally1 on dirt roads, a rally in which Sébastien Loeb will also be present, aboard a Ford Puma Rally1:
Back in January, Ogier admitted to AutoSport that our race was on his list for this year, but obviously, there was still a lot to outline in the middle, until he could confirm it. It was known at that time that he would compete in the WEC, World Endurance, but it was not known with whom: he will do it with Richard Mille Racing in the LMP2, which means that there was no calendar concurrence with ‘our’ race. Everything pointed to this outcome, which had been in the works for a long time, the only thing missing was black and white. Just yesterday at the rally press conference we witnessed an interesting dialogue:
How many cars will Toyota have in Portugal?
“Four Cars”.
And who will be in the fourth car?
“Teremos Kalle Rovanperä, Elfyn Evans, Takamoto Katsuta e mais um carro…”
“And one more pilot… we’re not going to be in for a surprise, are we? will it be you?
“That would be a pleasant surprise, but I don’t think it’s going to happen! Unfortunately, at this time I cannot confirm who it is…”
Now it remains to be seen what evidence Ogier will do more of. It is known that he enjoyed racing in New Zealand and/or Greece, and it is also known that only Rally Japan has a calendar conflict with the WEC as he visits Bahrain that same weekend.
Welcome, Sébastien Ogier…
