Oscar Piastri is a young talent from Alpine who has excelled in the beginner categories. After having been F3 and F2 champion in consecutive years, the young Australian awaits his opportunity in F1. Alpine is working to make that happen and a new rumor has emerged, with Williams a possibility for next season.
Ted Kravitz of Sky Sports F1 referred to this possibility:
“One of the latest paddock rumors has Williams interested in Oscar Piastri’s services,” Kravitz said last weekend in Imola. “This is for next year. I know I said we could potentially see Oscar Piastri at Aston Martin, but it looks like I was wrong about that and actually Oscar Piastri/Alpine are looking at Williams potentially as a place for him next year. I don’t know if that will be in place of Alex Albon or Nicholas Latifi, as they are both very happy and well integrated into this team at Williams, but it’s a place to consider later in the season.”
Latifi has had a season to forget so far, with frankly negative performances. Since her entry into F1 in 2020 she has not yet impressed and this year she has lowered the bar, struggling to adapt to the new car. Alex Albon, despite his connection to Red Bull, seems happy at Williams. Two two, Latifi looks like the biggest candidate for the exit, as Red Bull is pleased with the Max Verstappen/Sergio Pérez duo and, as such, Albon should not have a vacancy in the team. So staying at Williams seems to make sense at this point. Latifi, on the other hand, either improves a lot, or he could be doing his last season in F1.
