Alfa Romeo will decide the future of Formula 1 in July, according to the head of the Italian brand, Jean-Philippe Imparato. The partnership between Alfa Romeo and Sauber began in 2018 and was renewed in 2021 with a multi-year contract between the parties. However, Sauber’s deal with Andretti Autosports seems to have left its mark and the Italians will evaluate their relationship with the Swiss this year.
“The future of the partnership between Alfa Romeo and Sauber will be announced in July,” Jean-Philippe Imparato told Motorsport.com during the Emilia Romagna GP. “It won’t be a complicated process. There are two aspects that we will evaluate: results and economic return”.
The CEO of the Stellantis group, which owns Alfa Romeo, also present at the Italian race, admitted that the partnership with Sauber is working.
“There are those who criticize our choice. I answer that there is not just one way to be in F1. Having a team is one path, but there are others, and among them is what we chose. If we are here on the track, if there is a team called Alfa Romeo that is ready to compete in a GP, I can say that it is working very well”.
The start of the season for Alfa Romeo, which has spent the last few years at the back of the pack, could weigh positively on the Italians’ decision and, who knows, increase its presence in Formula 1 and in the Swiss team.
