The net revenue of the machinery and equipment industry sector in the country registered a drop of 6.8% in March 2022, compared to the same month of the previous year, according to a balance sheet by the Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry (Abimaq ). The total monthly revenue was R$ 25.1 billion.

In the first quarter of 2022, the sector also accumulated a drop of 5.3% in revenue, after growth of 21.6% in the balance of the whole of last year – January to December. Quarterly revenue was R$67.4 billion.

Despite the negative results compared to the previous year, the sector had a growth of 14.3% in net revenue compared to the month of February, the second consecutive growth after a series of declines that began in September 2021.

“The numbers observed in the first quarter of the year indicate that the deceleration of industrial activity, which began in the last quarter of 2021, mainly in sectors linked to household consumption, continue to negatively impact productive investments in some segments”, says a note from the entity.

exports

Exports grew 45.3% in March, compared to the same month of the previous year. There was a rise of 36.6% in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2021 and an increase of 15.4% compared to February. The sector’s total exports were US$ 1,011.87 million in March 2022 and US$ 2,606.32 in the quarter.

“Exports that started strong recovery from the second quarter of 2021, maintained this trend in 2022”, evaluated the Abimaq.

In the imports of machinery and equipment, there was growth in March (9.1%) in comparison with the month of February and in the interannual comparison (8.8%). In the year, the accumulated growth reached 15.9%. March had a total of US$ 2,136.60 million in imports and, in the quarter, it totaled US$ 5,937.48.
