Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) published a resolution yesterday that expands the list of Kinder chocolates banned in Brazil, after suspicions of salmonella contamination in Europe.
According to the document, all products named Schoko-Bons manufactured in Belgium and imported into the country are prohibited.
The last measure released on April 20, determined only the collection of a batch of white chocolates, but the agency expanded the restriction “since the company Ferrero do Brasil [fabricante dos chocolates Kinder] informed having identified the commercialization of lots of these products, imported by third parties to our country”.
According to Anvisa, this chocolate is manufactured in cocoa and white flavors and is available in packages of 46g, 125g, 200g and 300g.
The agency pointed out that Ferrero started the voluntary collection of the product. In a note (see the full text below), Ferrero Brasil informed that it does not import or sell this product in the country, but has learned that third-party companies, with which it does not have commercial relations, imported it independently.
“All other Kinder products sold and or distributed by Ferrero do Brasil are safe for consumption and are not affected by this collection”, says the company.
Anvisa explains that the voluntary collection “is a preventive measure, adopted by the interested company and other companies in the food production chain, which aims at the immediate and efficient withdrawal of batches of products from the consumer market”.
“When the food represents a risk or harm to the health of the consumer, the collection is mandatory, according to the Resolution of the Collegiate Board of Directors (RDC) 24/2015. In such cases, the company is obliged to communicate the fact to Anvisa within 48 hours, from awareness of the need for collection, so that the necessary sanitary measures are adopted and the collection is monitored by the Agency.”
Anvisa asks consumers to check the back of the product if it was made in Belgium. If you have products from the country, the orientation is for them not to be consumed and for people to contact the Customer Service of the Ferrero company (telephone 0800 701 6595 and e-mail [email protected]) so that it can arrange for the collection.
See below the full note sent by Ferrero Brasil:
Ferrero do Brasil informs that it has informed the authorities of its decision to carry out a voluntary and preventive recall of any version of the KINDER SCHOKO-BONS product, manufactured in Belgium. Although the company does not import or sell this product in the country, we are aware that third-party companies, with which we do not maintain commercial relations, have imported it independently, which are part of a recall conducted abroad and, therefore, may have potential contamination by Salmonella. .
Resolutions No. 1,233, No. 1,292, No. 1,320 and No. 1,344, all from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), only acknowledge the prohibition of commercialization, importation and distribution by independent importers or any other economic agent of the products that are object of recall abroad, all manufactured in Belgium.
Resolution No. 1,321, in particular, formalizes the voluntary and preventive recall spontaneously presented by Ferrero do Brasil of Belgian KINDER SCHOKO-BONS products, once their introduction into the Brazilian market has been identified. Always guiding its conduct to protect the safety of consumers and the quality of its products, Ferrero do Brasil also volunteered its withdrawal.
The company advises that if you have purchased this product, do not consume it and contact Customer Service on 0800 701 6595, every day from 9 am to 7 pm or by email [email protected] for exchange or refund.
