President Jair Bolsonaro acknowledged today that the country is suffering from inflation, but stressed that there is no shortage of foodstuffs and inputs, amid the disclosure of recent indices that point to a persistence of high prices.
“Brazil is still going through a difficult time like the whole world, consequences of the pandemic and a war far away from here”, he said.
“We suffer from inflation, the price of fuel and energy, but we don’t have shortages”, he amended, at an event in Paragominas (PA) for the delivery of land regularization titles.
The day before, the IBGE had informed that the Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15) had an increase of 1.73% in April, the highest rate for the month since 1995. The result led to the accumulated advance of the IPCA-15 in 12 months at 12.03%.
Pardon the deputy
The president once again defended his decision to have granted a pardon to federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) after he was sentenced last week by the Federal Supreme Court to almost nine years in prison for crimes of coercion and threat to ministers of cut.
“What I did is not just for that deputy, it’s for all of you, our freedom cannot continue to be threatened,” he said, saying he felt “proud” of the decision taken.
The day before, Bolsonaro promoted an act at the Planalto Palace to redress the parliamentarian with the presence of dozens of parliamentarians. The event was filled with criticism and even threats from those present to the Judiciary.
