An Instagram profile states that the new sandwiches of the McPicanha line, recently launched by McDonald’s, do not have Picanha in the composition. In a statement, the fast food chain confirmed that the hamburger used in the product is made from beef.
The demonstration took place after the page Coma Com os Olhos, which reviews snacks on Instagram, stated that it would take the possible case of misleading advertising to the National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation and Procon in São Paulo.
“They strategically left extremely relevant information out of this disclosure. This Picanha meat, internally called Carne Pic, was discontinued. And since 04/05/2022, all the chain’s restaurants have been notified by the matrix that they should start using meat 3.1, that is, the meat of the Tasty line”, says the page in a publication of April 19.
“Such information, which is not passed on to the brand’s consumer, is evidenced through the prints of internal training materials that were obtained from McDonald’s Brazil employees. Another point of this launch is that the sales campaign of these new hamburgers is valid only over 12 years old”, says the text.
What does McDonald’s say?
In a statement, the fast food chain stated that the line called “Novos McPicanha” has that name in order to provide a new experience to the consumer, by offering sandwiches developed with a more pronounced barbecue flavor. Read in full:
“For this, the launches bring the novelty of the exclusive picanha-flavored sauce (with a natural flavor of picanha), a new presentation and a different hamburger in composition and in size (100% beef, produced with a blend of selected cuts and in the largest size currently offered by the chain.) We regret that the communication created about the new products may have generated doubts and we inform you that there will be new pieces highlighting the composition of the sandwiches more clearly.
