Who is from the Orkut days? The first social network in the world that has conquered more than 300 million people on the internet. If you had fun in communities, in testimonials and nurtured nostalgia in photo albums, know that the creator of the social network is saying “hello” after 17 years of the birth of his creation.
Since Wednesday (27), on the official page of the site, you can subscribe to receive more news. The creator of the social network, Orkut Buyukkokten, also leaves his message: “We put a lot of effort into making orkut.com a community where you could meet real people who shared your same interests, not just people who liked and commented on your photos” .
Orkut was created in January 2004, Brazil was the main audience, reaching 50% of the profiles, it was bought by Google in 2008 and ended up being deactivated in 2014. Today, the creator remembers the times of peace and love, and a certain criticism of the options that exist for social networks, at a time when “haters”, digital advertisements and concerns arising from publications in profiles are latent:
“Our online tools should serve us, not divide us. They should protect our data, not sell it. They should give us hope, not fear and anxiety. The best social network is the one that enriches your life, but doesn’t manipulate it. I want you to be able to be your true self, online and offline.”
In addition to the intention to connect people in a positive way, there are still no details about the release date and what the resurrection of Orkut will be like:
“I’m an optimistic person. I believe in the power of connection to change the world. I believe the world is a better place when we get to know each other a little more. That’s why I brought orkut.com to so many of you around the world. . And that’s why I’m building something new. See you soon!”, declares the creator of the social network.
On Twitter, the subject is being one of the most talked about:
on orkut we could make testimonials, join communities, play mini farm and happy harvest, read the fortune of the day, see who visited the profile… it was the best social network and we didn’t appreciate it.

Some users even linked the return of the social network to Elon Musk and his latest acquisition — Twitter.
Long ago, nations lived in peace and harmony.
But all that changed when Elon Musk attacked.
Only Orkut dominates the entire web, but when the world needs it most, it disappears. 8 years have passed, but Orkut answered the call. I believe that Orkut can save the web. https://t.co/PssQ9swxZ2— Luiza (@luarmendes02) April 27, 2022
Others pointed out that the Metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg’s latest obsession, is not as new an idea as the creator of Facebook would have you believe:
But after all, hadn’t the network come back?
It is not the first time that information about the return of Orkut has circulated. In 2020, a fan of the platform created an app with the same name as the social network — and which, despite the same appearance, was not the same app. At the time, the program’s data collection also raised some suspicion.
Also, in September 2014, a smart Brazilian created “Orkuti”, another program along the same lines. The copy was closed by Google that same month. In August 2016, the app was removed from the Play Store, however, less than 24 hours later, it returned with a new name: Orkut.one.
At the time, Google said in a statement that it did not comment on specific apps, but noted that its policies “are designed to provide a better experience for users and developers” and that the app would have violated those rules. Today, the app is outside the Play Store.
