BRASILIA (Reuters) – President Jair Bolsonaro said on Friday morning that he will soon announce a wind energy project on the coast of the Northeast region together with the private sector that could, in his accounts, generate electricity equivalent to 50 hydroelectric plants. from Itaipu.
In an interview with Rádio Metrópole FM, from Cuiabá (MT), Bolsonaro did not specify what type of project he was talking about. The Northeast is the main area of wind generation in Brazil, attracting strong investments from the private sector in the last decade.
“In a short time, we will announce in the next few days with the private sector, because we don’t have money, we can in a few years have an energy generation on the northeast coast equivalent to 50 Itaipus, clean energy, wind, where from there we we will be producing green hydrogen, which the whole world is interested in green hydrogen and we will send energy to the whole world”, he said.
The green hydrogen that Bolsonaro refers to is produced in an electrolyser that consumes exclusively renewable energy, which makes it a fuel with the potential to fight climate change. In addition to the expectation of being used in vehicles of the future, there are also applications in the food and other industries.
In the interview, the president also said that the return by the concessionaire of a stretch that passes through Mato Grosso of the BR-163 that was granted to the private sector is under analysis by the Ministry of Infrastructure.
“It is being negotiated the return by the current concessionaire for a new re-bidding”, he said without giving more details about what would be the stretch and about the progress of the negotiations.
