The retreat of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the promise of restructuring the Federal Police (PF) and the Federal Highway Police (PRF) deepened the fight with unions and class associations.
Faced with the signal that the government will maintain a single readjustment for all civil servants, without special conditions for the Union police, entities representing delegates, experts, police officers and PF servers released a joint note this Friday, 29, promising to react.
“Federal police officers will not receive this heavy blow in silence,” the text reads.
Earlier, in an interview with Rádio Metrópole, from Cuiabá (MT), Bolsonaro confirmed that the government should maintain the 5% increase for all federal servants. The statement comes a day after demonstrations by federal police in different states.
The PF expected a broader recomposition and differentiated treatment for the category, as the president had already indicated. The announcement of a unified increase package has sparked protests that have been going on for at least two weeks.
Bolsonaro had already signaled that he could abandon the promise of a more robust readjustment for the PF if other categories that also claim an increase did not give up the election. Until then, the president had been repeating that the R$ 2 billion reserved in the Budget for the increase in civil servants would go to federal police, federal highway police and prison guards. Class representatives met with Justice Minister Anderson Torres to try to forge a deal and still had hope that the government would come up with an alternative.
Federal delegate Luciano Leiro, president of the National Association of Federal Police Delegates (ADPF), said that the president’s retreat is a ‘disrespect’.
“If that happens, the legacy of the President of the Republic of this government will be a complete devaluation of the federal police. We will not remain silent”, he says.
Federal police officers were among the main bases of support for the president’s victory in 2018. Without the promised readjustment, Bolsonaro provokes the dissatisfaction of the category six months before the election.
Federal delegate Tania Prado, president of the Union of Federal Police Delegates of the State of São Paulo (SINDPF-SP), says that the ‘level of indignation of the police is high’.
“There has never been such neglect in the federal sphere as it is now”, he criticizes. “The government has become the main agent for weakening the police. The president, based on fallacies, does not support the project to restructure the Union’s police forces, even with a budget of R$ 1.7 billion approved and set aside for that. legal obstacles, but simply the president’s lack of political will.”
The president of the National Association of Federal Criminal Experts (APCF), Marcos Camargo, also reacted to the president’s retreat and said that Bolsonaro’s conduct is “serious and inadmissible”.
“It is surprising that a government appeal, which publicly promised a restructuring, precisely due to the importance, complexity and responsibility of the police’s activity. appreciation and recognition of the importance of police activity”, he says.
