The new layout of the 2022 Formula 1 calendar should benefit from the characteristics of the Alfa Romeo C42, believes the team’s engineer, Xevi Pujolar. According to the engineer, the Miami Grand Prix will highlight the strengths of his car next weekend, better than what happened at Imola during the Emilia Romagna GP, where Valtteri Bottas won fifth place, his best result of the season. so far.
“We hope to be stronger than in Imola,” Pujolar said. “I think the type of layout might benefit us”.
Pujolar admits that he faces the next race with high expectations, hoping to fight with McLaren and Alpine. “Now we have an idea – we have a layout in the simulator and everything – but what it’s actually going to be like, we’ll have to find out when we’re there. We’ll see then. It’s kind of a layout that I think we’re going to be strong, but we’ll have to see in terms of the asphalt and everything that’s really going to be. But everyone has high expectations of fighting Alpine and McLaren. It is very encouraging for us.”
Alfa Romeo occupies fifth place in the constructors’ championship, taking 25 points in the first four rounds.
