Nelsinho Trad, leader of the PSD in the Senate, is the author of a request, approved today, which calls for a public hearing with representatives of the fast food chains McDonald’s and Burger King to “put on clean plates” the cases of misleading advertising in relation to sandwiches. “McPicanha” and “Rib Whopper”.
The request was approved by the Senate’s Committee on Transparency, Governance, Inspection and Control and Consumer Protection. With that, the hearing should take place on the next 12th, at 14 pm.
During the commission that finalized the call for representatives, Senator Nelsinho Trad stated that these cases are “a joke with the Brazilian population”, opining: “Fake sandwich? That was all that was needed”.
“Advertising a hamburger product with picanha and ribs and saying that these hamburgers only have the smell of picanha and ribs, this is a joke with the Brazilian population,” said Trad.
The senator added: “We are in the era of fakes. Fake news. Fake sandwich? That was all that was needed.”
The audience, which was unanimously approved, will include representatives from Procon, Anvisa and the blog ‘Comer com o Olhos’, in addition to McDonald’s and Burger King.
Procon of São Paulo had already activated the two companies
Procon-SP notified Burger King yesterday on suspicion of false advertising in the case of the Whopper Ribs sandwich, which does not have ribs in its ingredients.
The fast food chain must provide explanations to the agency and forward the nutritional table of the sandwich, attesting to the composition of each of the ingredients (meat, sauces, additives, among others).
Five days ago, the agency also notified McDonald’s for the sale of McPicanha that doesn’t take picanha.
