After a meeting that lasted about two hours, the president of the Perseu Abramo Foundation (FPA), ex-minister Aloizio Mercadante, and the ex-governor and vice-presidential nominee on Lula’s ticket, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), settled some points that must be part of the PT government program.
According to Mercadante, during the meeting, Alckmin highlighted the need to rebuild the federative pact and the republican pact.
“We were agreed to continue these debates on the government plan, including with technicians who will be appointed by the former governor,” he said in a statement.
PT members have rejected the thesis that Alckmin could be a decorative deputy and want to give the former toucan a greater role during the campaign. Alckmin has even been chosen to try to reduce resistance to PT among some sectors, such as agribusiness, automotive and medical entities.
“We also talked about how to leverage investments to resume public works, since we are working on a detailed study of all the stopped works and how much investment is needed to resume these works. Alckmin also discussed in depth the issue of agribusiness in Brazil” , said Mercadante.
The meeting, which took place at the FPA’s headquarters in São Paulo, was attended by some coordinators from the entity’s Public Policy Monitoring Centers.
The idea is that, from the launch of the candidacy of ex-president Lula, next Saturday (7), the program will have “wide consultation to the society”.
“In addition to asking Alckmin for suggestions, who will be a key leader in defeating Bolsonaro’s setbacks, important highlights were presented by the former governor, such as the need to rebuild the federative pact and the republican pact,” said the PT.
Fighting the Secret Budget
The objective of re-discussing the federative pact, according to the column, would be an attempt to avoid the continuation of the so-called secret budget, where parliamentary amendments lack greater transparency.
“Our understanding is that the republican pact and the federative pact, which are being removed by Bolsonaro, need to be rescued in Brazil, through the construction of respectful relationships and the establishment of criteria for the distribution of public funds, whether in the SUS , in education or in investments”, said Mercadante.
According to PT, the criterion cannot be who is a friend or who is a political ally of the incumbent president. “The Brazilian state needs rules and procedures that ensure this republican partnership between the Union, states and municipalities,” he said.
Mercadante also said that Alckmin remembered the relationship with President Lula, when he was governor, and stated that, despite being political opponents, the two always maintained a “respectful and republican” relationship. “The same thing happened in his relationship with former mayor Fernando Haddad, when both were in public service,” said Mercadante.
