Volkswagen will stop production for 20 days at the factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in the ABC region of São Paulo, starting next Monday. The reason is the global semiconductor crisis, which, as had already been announced, made the automaker suspend yesterday the second shift at the factory that assembles the T-Cross sport utility vehicle in Paraná.
While at the Paraná unit, employees had their work contracts suspended – the so-called layoff, which can last five months -, at ABC, workers on both shifts will have collective vacations for the next three weeks.
According to the ABC metalworkers’ union, 2,500 Volkswagen workers will go on vacation at the unit, where the Polo, Virtus, Nivus and Saveiro models are produced.
