Released last February, the DS E Tense Performance is seen by the French brand itself as the preview of the car of the future, full of revolutionary solutions… and without brakes?!
According to DS Automobiles, at the basis of this “revolution” is the technology that the manufacturer has been developing in Formula E and which, it stresses, allows this DS E Tense Performance not to need any set of brake discs, as we know it. .
In fact, and although the concept can be effectively stopped, this is done at the expense of energy regeneration technology through the movement of the wheels, which should – the word is ours… – be able to immobilize the car, even in emergency situations. .
Will the car be able to do without the traditional and safe brake discs in the future? DS Automobiles seems to believe so…
However, it is also true that, hindering the action of this technology, there is the power of the same electric motors that the DS Formula E team uses in its single-seaters. And that, by the way, not only guarantee a combined power of 815 hp and an even more amazing torque of 8,000 Nm, but also guarantee an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in no more than 2.0 seconds!

At the same time and thanks to battery charging technology capable of supporting powers up to 350 kW, this DS E Tense Performance promises to be able to recharge the batteries in no more than five minutes!
Finally, as for the aforementioned technology of energy regeneration through the movement of the wheels, Carscoops recalls that it is not something new, although, contrary to what happens in this DS, it is usually combined with disc brake systems.
In the case of the French brand, however, the technology is expressed in a totally new way, without brake discs or hydraulic calipers. Which, in addition to helping to reduce the total weight of the vehicle, also leads to a more efficient use of the energy produced when decelerating, which is directed directly to the batteries.

Adding that, “Regenerative braking is a very powerful way to not only slow down the vehicle, but also help improve battery performance. The DS E Tense Performance takes the technology to a new level, with regenerative braking used only to slow the vehicle down.”
