Celebrating 50 years of existence, BMW M is preparing to attend the upcoming 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed as one of the main guests of honor. Which is why BMW’s racing division has already announced its intention to present a new M proposal during the event, about which little is known, but about which a lot is already said…
Scheduled for next June, more precisely from the 23rd to the 26th of June, the 2022 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, or, in Portuguese, Goodwood Festival of Speed, thus promises increased interest. Starting with the BMW M, which, celebrating half a century of existence, promises important news!
Even chosen to embody the traditional sculpture that, in each of the festival’s editions, honors a prominent automotive brand, BMW’s competition and performance division has, moreover, already defined the way it promises to mark this year’s festival – nothing more, nothing less, than through the presentation of a new proposal M.
There will be several historic BMW M models to be present at Goodwood. But not only…
“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we couldn’t imagine a better place to celebrate our products, together with the brand’s fans,” BMW M CEO Frank van Meel said of the “choice” of Goodwood. . Adding that, “I’m particularly looking forward to revealing a certain vehicle to the public for the first time – a vehicle we’ve been waiting for for a long time.”
Could it be… the M2?
Although without revealing much more about this proposal, the truth is that there are already several hypotheses that are beginning to be suggested in the world press, among which, for example, the new M2 – a model in which, it is no longer a secret, the division M has been working, with the latest news pointing to the sports car entering production at the end of 2022 at the San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.
The fastest, most powerful and lightest. BMW M shows new images of the future M4 CSL
Also according to the latest rumors, this new M2 should debut a variant of the six-cylinder 3.0 Twin Turbo that has the code name S58 and is used by the M4, and the possibility of being also available with a box is also not ruled out. six-speed manual.
In the spy photos already released, it is also possible to perceive an exhaust system with four outlets, positioned in the center of the rear.
E se for… a M3 Touring?
However, and back to the hypotheses, the vehicle van Meel talks about could also very well be the future M3 Touring. Van that has never had, until today, the “magic” of the M division, but which, at the moment, has already been launched, with its debut, according to some rumors, precisely in the same month as the Goodwood Festival – June.
The future BMW M3 Touring, still in camouflage. Could this be the model to be presented at Goodwood?…
About this van, it is possible to say that it will have the same technical basis as the M3, although with more space for luggage, maintaining, however, the same six-cylinder 3.0 Twin-Turbo delivering 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque. also in the case of the Touring, combined, apparently, with an 8-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive.
Ruled out, however, is the possibility that this M3 Touring could only come with rear-wheel drive or even with a manual gearbox.
Or else… something totally new!
Much more difficult seems to be the hypothesis that the model to be presented by BMW M, in Goodwood, is an ‘M’ created specifically for the occasion, although, since 2021, there is a rumor that the department led by Frank van meel could be working on a unique project, precisely with the aim of marking the 50th anniversary of ‘M’.
