Apparently, Eduardo Freitas should be, for the first time this year, Race Director of a Formula 1 Grand Prix, at the Spanish Grand Prix that takes place in a week and a half in Barcelona.
So far Niels Wittich has been leading, but it has been known since the beginning of the year that the work will be shared with the Portuguese, who due to his mission in the WEC, could hardly do it full time. As is known, Eduardo Freitas takes the place, and repeats it in Monaco, before starting his usual work at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which takes place on the same weekend as the Azerbaijan GP.
Things haven’t gone wrong in the drivers/teams’ relationship with the Race Director, but they haven’t been perfect either, this being a natural process when there are new people for the positions.
Niels Wittich has been adamant, and teams have known exactly what to count on. There is also a desire to use a VSC (Virtual Safety Car) and only use a Safety Car when it is clear to everyone that SC is the case.
