The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), predicts “almost unanimous” support for bills that are on the House agenda this week and may reduce the value of the electricity bill.
For this week, Lira promised to vote on a proposal that allocates tax credits improperly collected from consumers to cut down the electricity bill and another that prohibits the collection of ICMS on electricity tariff flags.
“I have no doubt that these matters that fight inflation, that reduce the disparity between taxes in Brazil, since we were not able to vote on a broader tax reform, which is ready in the Senate, and we are waiting for the Senate to vote. almost unanimous support for these projects,” he said in an interview aired by Record News, as he added another criticism to Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) for not voting on the tax reform.
Congress has been carrying out a kind of “uprising” against price increases and has the support of the government, at a time when the effect of high inflation on Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) reelection chances worries the president’s campaign committee.
Last week, the Chamber approved a project that establishes a 17% ceiling for ICMS on electricity, fuels, natural gas, aviation kerosene, collective transport and telecommunications.
