The PL, the party of the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, finalized this Tuesday, 21, the application to ask for the opening of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of Petrobras in the Chamber. The text, obtained by Broadcast Político (Grupo Estado’s real-time news system), talks about investigating the conduct of the State’s Board and directors and also proposes to investigate alleged irregularities in the definition of fuel price policy.
As of the publication of this report, the request already had 65 signatures, according to a source. To be registered in the Clearinghouse system, a minimum of 171 is required.
Among the parliamentarians who endorsed the opening of the CPI are Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son 03 of the President of the Republic, Bia Kicis (PL-DF), Coronel Tadeu (PL-SP) and Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ), who received a pardon from Bolsonaro after being convicted by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for attacks on democracy.
The author of the request is the leader of the PL in the Chamber, Altineu Côrtes (RJ).
After gathering the necessary signatures, the request to install the CPI needs to be authorized by the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). As the Broadcast report showed, the real possibility of installing the collegiate remains low at the moment and is seen more as pressure for the government to find ways to reduce the price of fuel, which hinder Bolsonaro’s electoral plans, and to obtain changes in the Law of Companies. State-owned companies to expand political interference and rigging in public companies.
“It is the CPI of the price of fuel”, highlighted to the report the leader of the government in the Chamber, Ricardo Barros (PP-PR), in an attempt to focus the possibility of investigation in the price policy, and not in the company linked to the government. “The objective is to investigate the price of fuel, shed light on taxes, evasion of exporters”.
The government’s text calls for “absolute transparency” on fuel prices. “In view of the absolutely harmful impacts on the country of possible irregularities in the process of defining fuel prices, including the corporate benefits involved, which impact on costs, and so that the whole society is aware, with absolute transparency, of the mechanisms of formation of fuel prices, we presented the application and requested support from peers for the installation and regular operation of the CPI”, says an excerpt from the request.
If installed, the CPI will be composed of 25 full members and an equal number of alternates. The initial period for the investigation is 120 days, but there is the possibility of extension, according to the Chamber’s internal regulations.
On Monday, the 20th, after a meeting with party leaders, Lira informed that the PL would present the request for the CPI. The idea of opening the investigation against Petrobras, defended by Bolsonaro last Friday, 17, came to a halt after José Mauro Coelho resigned as president of the state-owned company on Monday.
Faced with the increase in fuel prices, on the eve of the election campaign, politicians launch an offensive against Petrobras. This Tuesday, according to the Political Broadcast, Lira and the party leaders will discuss with government technicians possible changes in the State-owned Companies Law, in the pricing policy, which currently has international parity, and in the composition of the company’s Administrative Council. In addition, parliamentarians and Palácio do Planalto should discuss Petrobras’ right of preference in bids.
