Nostalgia will hit hard for anyone who played Atari, one of the first home video game consoles. The company turns 50 in 2022 and has announced that it will release the Atari 50th – The Anniversaty Celebration compilation, featuring over 90 classics from that half century, later in the year.

The list of games has not yet been released, but it will include not only the collection of the Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800 (which were very popular in the 80s), but also of consoles released later, when the company was no longer so successful. , like the Jaguar and the Lynx.
There will also be six new games, ‘remakes’ or continuations of old franchises. These have already been released:
Swordquest: AirWorld: The fourth installment in the adventure series arrives nearly 40 years after the third, inspired by original concepts from creator Tod Frye.Haunted Houses: it was one of the first “survival horror” games on the Atari 2600. Now it gets a modern 3D remake.VCTR-SCTR: a mashup of various titles based on vector illustration, such as Asteroids and Tempest.Neo Breakout: another mashup, now uniting two competitive two-player classics: Breakout and PongQuadratank: continuation of the franchise interrupted in 1978, now with tank battles for up to four players and several free game modes.Yars’ Revenge Reimagined: considered one of the masterpieces of the Atari 2600, it will now have a hybrid version where you can switch between classic looks and modern graphics.
In addition to all this, the product will also be a great historical archive, with a timeline, trivia and interview videos with various programmers, designers and other important figures in the history of Atari.
The project is being coordinated by Digital Eclipse, a company specializing in compilations. She was responsible, for example, for Mega Man Legacy Collection, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and SNK 40th Anniversary Collection.
Atari 50th – The Anniversary Celebration is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Atari VCS and PC via Steam and Epic Games. The launch forecast is in the last quarter of the year.
