Commentator and former player Walter Casagrande will speak for the first time about his departure from TV Globo during the UOL Interview this Thursday (7), at 10 am, live. The program will be broadcast on the UOL Channel and on the UOL pages on YouTube, Facebook and TikTok.
The interview will be conducted by presenter Fabíola Cidral and will have the participation of columnists Mauricio Stycer and Milly Lacombe.
On social media, Casagrande announced his departure from the station after 25 years. “I came here to let you know that, after 25 years of TV Globo, six World Cups, with five finals, including the 2002 one with Ronaldo’s two goals, three Olympics and several championship finals out there, my cycle is over. I’m leaving Globo today, I’m no longer part of the TV sports group and I’m going on my way. In fact, I think it was a relief for both sides. A kiss to all”, he said.
In a note, Globo confirmed the commentator’s departure. “He has been a commentator for 25 years, 24 of them at Globo. A period marked by great moments, achievements, emotions, resilience and authenticity, one of his trademarks. In common agreement, the partnership between Globo and Casagrande arrives to the end, but his analysis will be forever marked in the almanac of football broadcasts on Brazilian television.”
Casagrande is among the main idols of Corinthians fans. Alongside Socrates, Wladimir and Zenon, he was part of the Corinthian Democracy, a movement organized in the early 1980s that had the end of the military dictatorship as one of its main demands.
Casagrande also made a career in Europe. In 1987, he won the UEFA Champions League for Porto. He also had a remarkable stint at Torino, where he was champion and runner-up in the Copa Italia, in 1992 and 1993, respectively.
After retiring as a player, he became a football commentator. At Rede Globo since 1997, Casagrande has worked on World Cups and Olympic Games and has become one of the country’s leading commentators.
He participated in the programs ‘Bem, Amigos’, ‘Seleção SporTV’, ‘Troca de Passe’, ‘Redação SporTV’, ‘Esporte Espetacular’ and wrote a blog on Globo Esporte called ‘De Peito Aberto’.
