The concept of creating in Belarus its own passenger electric car has undergone significant changes. Apparently, now the project will be built around the platform of the Chinese crossover Geely Coolray.

“As for the domestic electric car, now work is being done jointly with the Academy of Sciences. We submitted a sample of one of the most popular Coolray models to the National Academy of Sciences to study the possibility of creating an electric car based on this car. (…) We must find a way to get a world-class product at a competitive price,” said Gennady Svidersky, CEO of the BelGee plant. Behind the wheel

The source, citing its own data, reports that the Belarusian plant is negotiating the purchase of the Geely Coolray platform itself from Chinese partners. Then it will be possible to change its design and localize the components. If the deal goes through, the electric car will be mastered at BelGee.

Otherwise, the Unison plant located near Minsk is being considered for the production of an electric car. The enterprise has been idle for three years and has debts, but under certain conditions it can go to the state, the source writes.

During the year, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is to develop an electric drive for a promising machine based on a synchronous 80-kilowatt electric motor of the Polesye Electromechanical Plant. The inverter will also be Belarusian, and the battery will be based on Chinese cells.
