How the production volume of passenger cars in Russia grew and fell under sanctions

According to Rosstat, from January to October this year, domestic factories produced 417,000 passenger cars – 8.1% more than in the same period in 2022. In the fall, production of several several models was launched – in September, Moskvich began producing liftbacks with index 6, and Sollers began assembling ST6 pickups at the former Mazda plant in Vladivostok. In October, the Kaliningrad Avtotor began assembling the BAIC X7 crossover, and AVTOVAZ launched the Vesta Sportline.

By the end of the outgoing year, several more factories that previously belonged to foreigners will be restarted – for example, Isuzu in Ulyanovsk, the Kaluga truck plant, formerly owned by Volvo, as well as the former Volkswagen plant in the same area. In October, 16.6 thousand trucks were produced in the Russian Federation – 51% more than in October 2022 – and 2.9% less than in September 2023. Over the 10 months of this year, 134,000 trucks were manufactured – 17.6% more than in 2022.
