Production of the truck “Valdai 8” started at GAZ

The novelty has an increased carrying capacity, a new engine and a modified cabin.

Behind the wheel

The smallest GAZ medium-tonnage truck got rid of the NEXT prefix, replacing it with a figure eight. And this means that instead of a 2.8-liter Cummins diesel engine, a more powerful and high-torque G21B (and in the future, G51B) appeared in the engine compartment.

An increase of 16.6 hp and 67 Newton meters made it possible to increase the carrying capacity of the Valdai chassis by 840 kg – up to 4628 kg. Gross weight increased by 790 kg (7490 kg). At the same time, it was not necessary to make any reinforcements in the chassis design.

Stamping for the cabin comes from China, and it is already welded and painted at GAZ.

Along the way, the cabin was also modified. As an option, it will also be available in the version with a berth. Nobody has ever offered such a thing on the market in the MCV segment with a gross weight of up to nine tons.

However, the driver now has the opportunity to rest without a “sleeping bag”: the parking brake valve has been shifted 170 mm back, and thus the front seats can be used as a berth, and the width of the cab easily allows this.

The engineers worked on the heat and sound insulation of the cabin by installing additional mats in the floor, the bulkhead and on its rear wall. The engine is also insulated with special shields at the top and bottom. At the same time, the aerodynamics of the engine cooling system have been improved. Thus, the fan is connected less often, which reduces the noise from its operation and increases the resource.

“Behind the wheel” can now be read on VKontakte.
