Russian car dealers demanded compensation from Renault for losses due to the departure of the company

— On May 2, 2023, a group of Russian Renault dealers sent a proposal to the president of the company, Jean-Dominique Senard, to conclude an agreement to compensate Russian dealers for losses in the amount of 8.5 billion rubles incurred as a result of the withdrawal of the Renault brand from the Russian market, — said the president of the association ” Russian Automobile Dealers (ROAD) Alexey Podshchekoldin.

The French company arranged its departure from Russia in May 2022 in the form of a symbolic sale of the Moscow Renault plant to the capital’s government and the transfer of its shares in AVTOVAZ to FSUE NAMI, subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the brand’s proprietary dealer network, which included more than 150 auto trading organizations, was actually left to its own devices.

Now these companies want to receive compensation from the French for the costs of acquiring and renting real estate in dealerships, for their reconstruction to Renault standards, for staff training, for servicing loans taken for the development of the brand’s dealer network in Russia. In addition, they want to return the money they had to spend due to the lack of warranty support from the French, as well as to compensate for the lost profits from the termination of sales of brand cars in the domestic market.

If Renault ignores the appeal of its former partners, the latter threaten to go to court. True, it is not clear – in which one and with what prospects for satisfaction of the claim.
