Stellantis plant in the UK threatened with closure

Stellantis has sent a letter to the UK Parliament’s business committee saying it will close its local plant if the cost of producing electric vehicles in the country “becomes uncompetitive and unsustainable”. The automaker is asking the government to conclude an agreement with the EU to maintain the current country of origin rules until 2027.
Stellantis has become the first automaker to call on the UK to renegotiate the terms of the Brexit trade deal. However, earlier, other car companies expressed concern about the current situation in the country. If conditions are not revised, locally produced electric vehicles will not be able to compete on price with battery-powered European-made models.
