– My father issued a deed of gift for his car to his grandson – my son. He will turn 16 in January. Can I register a car for him? Can I ride it?

The head of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Lieutenant General Mikhail Chernikov, answers readers’ questions.

– If the owner of the vehicle is a person under 16 years of age, then in accordance with the Rules for state registration of vehicles in the registration departments of the State Road Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of December 21, 2019 No. 1764 , registration of the vehicle is carried out for one of its parents, adoptive parents or guardians (trustees).

Registration in such cases is carried out for a limited period – until the owner of the vehicle reaches the age of 16, after which it must be permanently registered directly behind him.

There are no special restrictions on driving this vehicle.
