The Russian car market is sick, the doctor does not come: the results of the April car sales cause discouragement

The reservation about the availability of data was not made by chance. Unfortunately, the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) has ceased to be the well of information that it was for many years. The main problem is that its database is objectively incomplete.
It does not take into account cars imported under parallel imports. Previously, it was easy to turn a blind eye to this because of the meagerness of the flow. Now the cars delivered in this way make up more than 10% of the total market and cannot be ignored. In addition, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Evolute, Chery with all sub-brands provide data only quarterly. And if the “Germans” can be ignored with a pure soul, since their sales are steadily tending to zero, then the “Chinese” are able to greatly correct the overall picture.

Nevertheless, some conclusions can be drawn from the data available to the AEB. It is reported that sales of new cars in the young month of April increased by 70.6% compared to the same period last year. Recall that in April 2022, the fall was 78.5% compared to 2021. But this does not mean at all that the sales volumes of passenger cars have returned to their previous level.
Two years ago, 151,964 vehicles were sold this month, while in 2023 only 54,270 units were sold. That is, in reality, compared with not the most successful, but more or less calm year before last, the market fell by 64.3%. Joyfully bouncing, describing our successes against the backdrop of 2022, which cannot be called anything other than the “bottom” is at least not serious.
