Why is the smell of a new car dangerous for health?

Chinese scientists came to disappointing conclusions.
Many motorists are crazy about the smell of a new car. They are also supported by manufacturers of accessories: car air fresheners with this scent are among the most sought after. But scientists from the Beijing Institute of Technology spoiled the rosy picture: they found that the smell of a new car can cause fatal diseases.
In the course of research on an unnamed hybrid SUV, it became apparent that the plastic, artificial leather and fabric elements present in the cabin produce at least 20 chemicals hazardous to health. At the same time, the concentration of some of them turned out to be very high.
In particular, scientists recorded a high level of benzene, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde emissions in the car. Despite the fact that the amount of chemicals did not exceed the limit of the Chinese safety standard, experts said that the simultaneous release of substances can provoke the development of cancer after only half an hour of being in the salon.
In addition to cancer, these chemicals can cause dizziness, shortness of breath and nausea in passengers.
